Remodeling your bathroom will change your perspective on life on a daily basis as you start and end your day in a greatly improved space. Utilizing some of the latest trends can add to the enjoyment of your bathroom.
Linear Drain in the shower
A linear drain is a thin wide drain that is designed into the shower pan during a bathroom remodel. It will require some planning, or experience, to correctly execute. The shower floor can be a flat surface and sloped to the drain. Most showers have a “Bowl” design with the drain in the middle.
Solid Surface Curb Top
A curb is the shower feature that you step over that is designed to keep water from migrating out the door onto the bathroom floor. It is usually tiled with finished tile on each side or metal trim. Covering the top of the curb with a neutral color solid surface material improves the clean look of a shower curb.
Planning a Room Addition Project – Go Curbless on your walk in showers
Curbless showers are far superior to the traditional shower with a curb. Stepping up into the shower is inconvenient compared to the ease of walking into a flat floor shower. If you are planning new space for your home it is easy to design and plan to have a curbless shower.
Your Room Addition Contractor can handle the details to make necessary changes to an existing plan to make the changes to execute a curbless shower.
Your curdles design does not require additional floor space. It does require some consideration in the framing directions from the Architect as well as knowledge and skill on the part of the installation crew. Executing this type of shower does not have to add expense to the finish work.
Home renovations can be greatly improved with a good plan from the onset.
Many factors need to be considered when planning a home remodeling project. Your investment of time and money can greatly increase the value of your property well beyond the expense of the renovation when done properly. Many homeowners experience a payback in excess of 100% to their investment with the benefits of working with us, our wholesale pricing on finish materials and the quality installation of our workmen.
Planning for a home remodeling project has many considerations for the homeowner/property owner. There is a budget or the expenses for the project, the design and look of the project, quality and installation of finish materials and length of the installation of the project as well as warranties as well as who will be handling the work.
Budgeting for your home remodeling project may not be easy and you are almost guaranteed that the project will cost more than you are planning. The pricing for a home remodeling project can be manipulated and controlled when you are willing to bend the scope for the finished project. The more rigid your expectations the less likely you will be able to make changes that may save you a considerable amount of time and money.
Make a good plan – A good plan starts with the initial interview at your home. We go over the requirements of your job and discuss alternatives and ideas to help make the space the best it can be. Our experience can help you find areas of consideration to help keep your project within the budget you are comfortable with.
Be prepared to modify your bathroom regiment. Taking a bathroom out of commission for any period of time will put additional pressure for bathroom time on the remaining bathroom(s). Everyone will need to be considerate of each others needs during this time.
Choose materials that you really love. Selecting finish materials that are exactly what you want can greatly affect your overall satisfaction. Don’t settle for less!
Enjoy the process. Your bathroom remodel may not go exactly as planned but does not have to be a disaster either. be prepared to modify the plan should unexpected surprises come up. Many times an unexpected detail that is carefully considered and discussed can make the project come out better than expected.
Order tile on time or only purchase what is in stock at the time of purchase. Many tile stores do not stock materials. They will have to order the materials from a wholesaler. If your contractor does not have an account at the wholesalers (as we do) then you will need lead time in order to have the tile store source the materials. Many tile stores get bad information on availability and the tiles may take much longer than expected to get to your home.
Design your kitchen – Simple steps to getting started.
When you design your kitchen for a remodel you can start with some basic requirements to help get you started.
The first task to do is do a simple overhead floor plan. Use grid paper to easily space each item on the page. If you don’t have grid paper you can make grids easily with a pencil and ruler. You will be using either two boxes for the depth of lower cabinets and one box depth for upper cabinets -or- four boxes for the depth of lower cabinets and two boxes for the depth of the upper cabinets(2 boxes per foot).
Measure out your space of the kitchen remodel. Make a rectangle with the length of the wall measurement written down. Next you will want to add doorways and window locations. Be sure to indicate the height of the window off the floor. Windows lower than 36″ from the floor do not usually get cabinets and counters.
With the room dimensions and shape written down it is time to add cabinet locations. Draw all locations where it is possible to add lower cabinets. Size of lower cabinets will be 2 boxes for 12″ boxes and 4 boxes if you are using the 6″ boxes (2 boxes per foot).
The next items to go into your drawing will be the kitchen sink which is usually under the window and the refrigerator. Be sure not to place the refrigerator up against a wall as this makes it somewhat difficult to open doors. With the sink and refrigerator placed it should be easy to place the stove or cooktop. If your kitchen is big enough to accommodate a wall oven or pantry cabinet (floor to ceiling) then it is best to place these cabinets next to the refrigerator.
Plan on keeping the cabinet above the refrigerator the same depth as the lower cabinets. Draw your upper cabinets wherever possible on the walls above the lower cabinets. Design your kitchen should now be looking complete.
You should now have a drawing showing the kitchen area with lower and upper cabinets shown at every possible location. There may be places that cabinets are not practical and they should be eliminated.

Planning a bathroom remodeling project requires some investigation of bathroom remodeling trends and the costs associated with bathroom upgrades.
Bathroom Layout –
Most bathroom remodels will require that each fixture be placed in the same location as the original design dictated. If you are lucky enough to have the space to move items around then now is the time to consider a change of floor plan.
Walk-In Bathroom Shower –
Changing out a bathtub for a walk-in shower will reduce your Real Estate listing from a “Full Bath” to a “3/4 Bath”. Although this is considered a detriment to listing parties the potential buyer of a property will appreciate the updated look and operation of your bathroom. Consider a full size walk-in shower on your next bathroom remodel.
Bathroom Materials –
Materials change as fashions change in the construction industry. Recently travertine stone has been replaced with ceramic and porcelain tiles once again. The larger tiles of the modern design world have overtaken natural stone finish materials in bathroom remodel trends.
Bathroom Lighting –
Bathroom remodeling trends in lighting make it to where you have more control over the options available. Code requires an occupancy sensor on most projects. Additional circuits can be installed for over the vanity/sink area lighting, inside shower lighting and task lighting.
Quality remodeling contractors perform kitchen and bath projects with quality materials and skilled staff.
